June is here and it’s time to plan a getaway with Dad! Throughout the Explorers’ Edge region of Ontario there are plenty of things that Dads will love to see and do with family over a very special Father’s Day weekend.
Head to Muskoka on Saturday June 18, 2016 for the 23rd annual Gravenhurst Car Show. Held at Gull Lake Rotary Park, the event regularly attracts over 600 vehicles in multiple classes. The show also features live music, activities for kids, prizes and a vehicle poker run around town.
On Sunday, June 19, 2016, downtown Bracebridge hosts its annual Father’s Day Car Show on Manitoba Street and in Memorial Park. Enjoy great music and food, and over 150 special interest vehicles on site to appeal to even the most seasoned car show enthusiast.
Does Dad love boats? Give him the gift of a cruise aboard one of cottage country’s many fine vessels. The Lady Muskoka is a modern cruiser that docks in Bracebridge and travels down the Muskoka River to Lake Muskoka. Looking for something a little smaller and more intimate? Sunset Cruises is offering a special Father’s Day “Circle Tour Cruise” aboard their restored delivery boat, the Peerless II. Leaving from Port Carling, there are two cruises available lasting two hours each. Captain Potts always entertains with his knowledge of local history, and fathers cruise for free.
How about combining a cruise aboard a steamship with excellent local craft beer? June 18 is the annual Father’s Day Beer Tasting Cruise aboard the SS Bigwin steamship. Departing from the Baysville Public Docks and cruising through beautiful Lake of Bays, these 1 hour 15 minute cruises offer classic Muskoka scenery combined with beer samples from the Lake of Bays Brewing Company.
Think Dad would be interested in the beer but not boating? Try the Brew Tours Muskoka Edition. On June 18 this new tour travels between three of the areas local breweries: Lake of Bays Brewing Company, Muskoka Brewery and Sawdust City Brewing Company. The afternoon event includes lunch, brewery tours and samples, with transportation provided. Or call and arrange your own tour and tasting at South River’s Highlander Brew Co. or the Muskoka Lakes Winery in Bala.
Does Dad enjoy live music? Treat him to the “Legends of Memphis” show at The Algonquin Theatre in Huntsville June 18. Celebrating the music and lives of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins, this fun-filled and audience interaction show will delight early rock ‘n’ roll fans. Head also to The Stockey Centre in Parry Sound the same night to see another tribute event, the Legends on Tour. Hear the music of Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley and Patsy Cline performed live by the Rockin’ Royals Band and special guests The Tonettes.
With over 30 golf courses ranging from championship length to family-friendly 9-holes, Dad will find the perfect round in Ontario’s cottage country. Many of the courses offer Father’s Day rates and and are hosting special events in honour of the day. There are also many ATV trails to be ridden, with the Park to Park trail from Killbear in the west to Algonquin in the east being one of the most popular. The annual Do It for Dads ATV Ride of Hope takes place June 18. Leaving and returning from Parry Sound, there is a full day of riding plus dinner and lunch. The region also boasts two aerial adventure parks. Treetop Trekking in Huntsville has a course with suspended bridges, swinging logs, cable traverses and zip lines, as well as offering night treks. Muskoka Ziplines and Aerial Park is located in Bracebridge at the always popular Santa’s Village Family Entertainment Park. Muskoka Ziplines has multiple packages that include an aerial adventure park, a 7 zip line canopy tour and the jump tower, where Dad will take the ultimate leap of faith.
