Hip hip hooray for Canada Day! 2020 marks the 153rd anniversary since the Constitution Act of 1867 established Canada as its own independent nation – and wow, what an incredible 153 years it’s been! Usual celebrations from year’s past are filled with memories of fantastic firework displays, delicious backyard cookouts, and quality time spent with family and friends – though this year may be a little different, there are still a few ways to celebrate Canada’s 153rd birthday right here in cottage country.

Each year the Stockey Centre in Parry Sound hosts Bands on the Bay, a series of shows throughout summer set on the patio at the venue creating a beautiful backdrop of Georgian Bay. Without skipping a beat, this year the Stockey Centre will be holding a Virtual Canada Day Celebration: Bands on the Bay that can be enjoyed from the comfort of your own home. Broadcasting via Facebook and YouTube, tune in at 1:00 pm for performances by Jessica Sevier and Chris Mapstone.
Strawberry Picking at Brookland’s Farm, Muskoka is a reoccurring event throughout the summer, but it just so happens to fall on Canada Day too! Purchase either a 2L or 4L strawberry basket, head into the fields and harvest your very own strawberries straight from the farm.

Get your toes tapping and hands clapping because Muskoka Chautauqua is hosting a Virtual Canada Day Celebration from 1:00 – 3:00 pm that includes a performance from local children entertainment super-star Jam Sandwich!
Check out the O Canada Online Kahoot! Trivia Challenge held by Lake of Bays Public Library; competition begins July 1 at 9:00 am and is open until July 2 at 11:59 pm. Test your knowledge about Canada and see how you stack up against competition! Scores will be posted July 3 at noon.
