Explore Gravenhurst & Get The Cottage Country Spirit!

Rediscover the “gateway to Muskoka” this summer.

Stroll along the scenic Muskoka Wharf boardwalk, home to the iconic Muskoka Steamships and Discovery Centre and many eclectic shops, or explore historic downtown Gravenhurst. A favourite for both locals and guests is dinner at a Muskoka Wharf restaurant, featuring the best waterfront patios in Muskoka and some of the most incredible sunsets anywhere.

Enjoy high tea at the Blue Willow Tea Shop or browse the many unique pop-up shops and arts vendors under one roof at the Muskoka Shipyards. The Wharf is easy to get to with lots of public parking and public boat docking spots too. The Wednesday Farmers’ Market has been a favourite for decades. Dozens of vendors set up in the field across from the Wharf and guests can browse the wares, with all of the necessary safety protocols in place.

Less than one kilometer from the Wharf is the historic downtown. One of the jewels of the downtown area is Arts at the Albion, a co-operative gallery showcasing the work of 20 diverse and unique local artists and craftspeople in a heritage building that dates back to 1879.

Another historic centerpiece is the Bethune Memorial House National Historic Site, which commemorates the life and achievements of Dr. Norman Bethune. Bethune Memorial House features a charming Victorian-era home set on a manicured property alongside an informative Visitor Centre. Originally built by Canadian architect John Francis Brown in 1901 for a cost of $12,000, the iconic Gravenhurst Opera House is a pleasant reminder of a bygone era and a cultural landmark for theatre aficionados in Canada.

Downtown Gravenhurst also enjoys some of the region’s best culinary experiences. Whether it’s Butcher’s Daughters, The Oar or Well Fed, Gravenhurst has a taste experience to suit every palette. Wash your meal down with a beer on the brand new patio at Sawdust City Brewing Company, one of the area’s most popular attractions. Adopting Gravenhurst’s early nickname (owed to its thriving lumber industry) Sawdust City is dedicated to the art and science of creating exceptional craft beers. It’s always fun to stop by and check out their latest release.

There are many retail shops in downtown Gravenhurst offering a range of products, including Muskoka Bay Clothing offering everything from sweatshirts for adults and children and comfy fleece robes, to hoodies, blankets, hats and tee shirts. They’ll even customize your Muskoka souvenir with embroidery while you wait! The Gravenhurst area is also home to some of the most renowned golf courses in all Canada. The course at Taboo Muskoka Resort & Golf is rated in the Top 100 Golf Courses in Canada, and among the top golf courses in the Muskoka region.
