Head to Huntsville, Muskoka for a unique celebration of winter in Ontario’s cottage country, including exceptional dining, outdoor adventuring and live music.
Taking place February 21-22, Huntsville’s Snowfest is an exciting family event centered around ongoing action on the snow-covered Main Street of town, all the way from Centre Street to Brunel Rd. Love skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking, skating, as well as dining and shopping too? Then Snowfest is the place to be!
The activities kick off Friday afternoon as the Huntsville High School Nordic Ski Team competes in the O.F.S.S.A. championship races being held on the challenging downtown Main Street circuit.
Get a front row view of these incredible athletes in action, who are coming to Muskoka from across Ontario. Then from 6-10pm, grab your own winter gear and enjoy the closed-off, snow-covered street yourself, which will be a back-lit winter wonderland as well.
Later in the evening, enjoy the “Snowfest Pub Crawl.” Six local establishments will be offering winter-themed food, drinks and live music, but there’s no crawling here; snowshoe, ski, walk or take a horse-drawn sleigh to traverse Main Street for even more fun.
Pick up your Pub Crawl Passport at whichever place you visit first, including Marigold Unique Flavours, The Mill on Main, Huntsville Brewhouse, That Little Place by the Lights, Moose Delaneys, and Canvas Brewing Co .
Collect all six passport stamps by ordering a food item or drink at each of the participating spots, and then hand your completed passport in at the event’s Info Desk (either Friday night or before 3pm on Saturday).
You’ll be entered into the draw to win a $50 gift card from one of these fine establishments! (Dining photo courtesy of Huntsville Brewhouse.)
The action starts again on Saturday at 9am and runs until 10pm, with outdoor activities scheduled until 4pm. Bring your own equipment to enjoy the unique Main Street experience, including Nordic skis, snowshoes or fat bikes.
You can also bring your snowboard or alpine skis and try the rail course that will be set up at ‘Riglet Park’, courtesy of Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area. Algonquin Outfitters will also be providing a limited number of snowshoes and fat bikes for you to try if you don’t have your own.
Visitors to Snowfest will also want to check out the downtown disc golf course, dog sledding demos and of course skating on the River Mill Park rink. Put your skills to the test with a variety of carnival games including mini putt, a fishing pond, curling and inflated ‘body zorbs’. Fancy something a little different? Try Huntsville’s famous Axe Throwing or breathe in the great outdoors with Snoga (Snow + Yoga), courtesy of Ahimsa and Veda Yoga.
Head to the Algonquin Theatre Partners’ Hall to enjoy a special line-up of activities. Speaking of Wildlife will have interactive table displays set up from 9am-3pm, and will present two very special 30-minute live wildlife shows (9:30am and 12:30pm). There will also be a ton of arts and crafts for all ages to participate in, courtesy of the students of Tawingo College.
At 4pm – make way for the fat tires! Main Street will transform into an 850-metre criterium course for the Muskoka Fat Bike Race, presented by the Huntsville Mountain Bike Association. With timed races in kids, beginner and competitive classes, the course promises to be fast and flowing with lots of opportunity for passing and exciting finishes. There are both medals and cash prizes up for grabs for the winners, so click here to register and get riding!
Cap off SnowFest with a concert by the Juno award-winning Canadian band, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings. Celebrating their 25th anniversary, the band will bring their signature roots-oriented show to the Algonquin Theatre stage. Be sure to visit the ticket page early to reserve your spot for this one-of-a-kind show.
