Partner Spotlight – Friends of the Muskoka Watershed – Science-Based Tourism Experiences

With support from the Explorers’ Edge Partnership Fund, Friends of the Muskoka Watershed (FOTMW) successfully delivered two engaging 2025 programs that combined hands-on learning with environmental stewardship. The Peer Under the Surface II cruise on Lake Muskoka introduced participants to aquatic life and lake health, while ASHMuskoka Day at Camp Big Canoe offered an immersive forest experience exploring ash restoration and forest sustainability.

These events attracted new and returning visitors, strengthened connections between the community and local scientists, and inspired environmental awareness across all ages. Social media promotion amplified engagement, bringing new participants to FOTMW and expanding regional visibility. By blending education, science, and experiential tourism, FOTMW positioned Muskoka as a destination for sustainable, family-friendly travel and looks forward to making these programs annual highlights.
