Partner Spotlight – Loring Deer Yard – Trail Enhancements and Interpretive Signage
With support from the Explorers’ Edge Partnership Fund, the Loring Deer Yard—a site of historical and ecological significance—is receiving targeted trail improvements to enhance the visitor experience. Once home to Ontario’s largest herd of white-tailed deer, the area now features a scenic 3.6 km interpretive trail stewarded by the Loring-Restoule Business Association.
This project includes upgraded signage, cleared pathways, and interpretive features that highlight the site’s natural and cultural heritage. Enhancements complement the existing Discovery Routes Trailhead Map signage, creating a safer, more engaging, self-guided hike for visitors. By improving navigation and interpretation, the project strengthens placemaking, encourages low-impact outdoor recreation, and positions the Loring Deer Yard as a key regional tourism asset.
The project aims to enhance the visitor experience by improving trails, navigation, and interpretation, while showcasing the historical and ecological significance of the area. It supports sustainable, self-guided outdoor recreation, aligns with Explorers’ Edge strategy to improve wayfinding and placemaking, and engages partners to maximize regional tourism impact. Planned objectives include installing clear trail markers along the 3.6 km route, maintaining and clearing pathways, developing interpretive signage, and complementing existing Discovery Routes Trailhead Map signage to create a cohesive visitor journey.
