Partner Spotlight – Muskoka Arts and Crafts Festival
With investment from the Explorers’ Edge Partnership Fund, Muskoka Arts & Crafts successfully delivered an enhanced 64th Annual Summer Show, building on the legacy event to create a more engaging, accessible, and multi-dimensional cultural tourism experience.
The partnership focused on increasing visitor engagement, broadening audience reach, improving accessibility, strengthening marketing, and driving economic impact. These objectives were successfully achieved, with the three-day event welcoming an estimated 9,474 visitors and showcasing 200 juried artisans, alongside live music, demonstrations, family programming, and cultural experiences.
The event also attracted visitors from well beyond Muskoka, including 30.5% from the Greater Toronto Area and 14.2% from Simcoe County. Accessibility improvements—including golf cart rides, accessible parking, rest areas, and accessible seating—helped deliver on the partnership’s commitment to creating a more welcoming visitor experience.
Marketing efforts expanded the event’s reach, generating 914,678 Meta impressions and 32,662 event clicks, alongside significant promotion through Muskoka Tourism and other channels.
Beyond the show itself, visitors supported accommodations, restaurants, retailers, attractions, and artists throughout Muskoka. Based on attendance, artisan reporting, and tourism spending, Muskoka Arts & Crafts estimates the Summer Show generated more than $1 million in direct and indirect economic activity for the local economy.
The partnership demonstrates how an established cultural event can continue to evolve through enhanced programming, accessibility, and promotion, strengthening the visitor experience while supporting artists, local businesses, and Muskoka’s broader cultural tourism economy.
