Recreation Supervisor
Role Summary

Reporting to the Enrichment Manager this dynamic leader has proven excellence in service delivery and will effectively lead the resort activities team including the fitness area, all recreation programming, pools and waterfront activities. This role is responsible for achieving a seamless guest experience by maintaining company service standards and achieving the hotel’s goals.


  • Create recreational activity guides for each season to include programming and scheduling
  • Ensure promotion of recreation activities throughout the hotel through effective communication
  • Responsible for maintaining the recreation budget including assisting with resort activity revenues along with expenses, staffing levels and productivity
  • Accountable for tracking recreation statistics
  • Review industry trends for new and innovative product and service opportunities
  • Maintain excellent relationships with 3rd party business partners
  • Develop strong relationships with the sales, events and operational teams to ensure program success
  • Conduct inventory of supplies, materials and equipment and follow resort purchasing guidelines
  • Encourage, recruit, register and schedule guests to participate in recreation activities
  • Promotes a fun and relaxing atmosphere for guests
  • Responsible for training, motivating and coaching associates, serving as a role model
  • In the event of injury during a recreational activity, provide assistance to injured guests until the arrival of emergency medical services
  • Promote the rules and regulations of the recreation department intended for the safety and welfare of guests
  • Follow company policy and procedure for activities including use of waivers
  • Work with Enrichment Manager to ensure that associates clearly understand their job roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations
  • Provide ongoing feedback and training to develop associates.
  • Address guest concerns, requests, or issues either individually including follow up from guest satisfaction survey comments
  • Collaborate with Enrichment Manager to develop and carry-out ideas and procedures to continuously improve department performance and GSS scores
  • Counsel associates on work related concerns and issues to ensure satisfaction and productivity and assist in preparing and presenting performance documentation
  • Prepare work schedules weekly and process payroll daily
  • Issue and distribute uniforms and ensure associates are following grooming standards
  • Welcome and acknowledge each and every guest with a smile, eye contact and a friendly verbal greeting using the guests’ names when possible
  • Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks, and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program
  • Adhere to all environmental policies and programs as required
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned


  • Minimum 1 year experience in a recreation leadership position, facility operations or related field is preferred
  • 2-4 years of progressive experience in a recreation role
  • University degree or college diploma in recreation field
  • CPR and First Aid certificate, Lifeguarding Certification an asset
  • Proven leadership abilities and excellent guest service skills
  • Knowledgeable about the hotel and surrounding Muskoka area

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Required to move, lift, carry, pull and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance
  • Stand, sit or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire shift
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting and pulling
