Tourism Tip Tuesday
Explorers’ Edge launched the initiative to provide tourism businesses and front-line staff with timely, practical ideas they can put into action right away, helping strengthen the visitor experience, increase sales and make the most of what is happening in their communities.
The idea is simple: a Tourism Tip Tuesday tip should be something a business owner or front-line staff member can act on that same week.
That could mean looking more closely at the information already available in your bookings, making sure your online information is current, helping visitors better understand what is happening locally, or simply paying closer attention to the small details that can turn a good experience into a memorable one.
Small actions can make a big difference
Here are a few examples of the kinds of ideas being shared through Tourism Tip Tuesday:
- Listen for the throwaway line. A guest mentions it is their anniversary, or that they have never been out on the water here. Is there a small way you can act on that information before they leave?
- Review your bookings before the day starts. One detail may be enough to greet someone more meaningfully. Are they a returning guest you can welcome back? Are they celebrating something? Are they visiting from outside Canada?
- Run a five-minute pre-shift huddle. What is happening in town today? What should your team know so they can help visitors discover another experience, attraction, restaurant or event?
- Check your Google Business Profile. Are your hours correct? Are your photos current? Is the information visitors see online accurate before they make the trip?
- Build around community events. Is there an upcoming festival, concert, sporting event or community celebration you can create a themed cocktail, menu item, special, package or experience around? Promote it early so visitors have time to build it into their itinerary.
- Think about how you make people feel cared for and invited. Define what that looks like in your business, then share it with your team so everyone can contribute to a stronger visitor experience.
Community events are an important part of Tourism Tip Tuesday, but they are only part of the opportunity. The tip is what makes the message worth opening.
Many people working in tourism and hospitality have spent time on the front line. That experience is valuable. The lessons learned from welcoming guests, anticipating needs, answering questions and creating memorable moments are exactly the kinds of ideas worth sharing.
When businesses across a destination do these small things well, the impact can extend beyond one transaction. Better visitor experiences can encourage additional spending, longer stays, stronger word-of-mouth and more reasons for travellers to return.
Part of the Visitor Intelligence Program
Tourism Tip Tuesday is part of Explorers’ Edge’s broader Visitor Intelligence Program, designed to help put useful and timely information into the hands of tourism operators and the people who interact directly with visitors.
The initiative is already generating positive feedback and momentum from participating businesses, and Tourism Tip Tuesday is currently planned to continue through to the Bala Cranberry Festival this fall.
Explorers’ Edge will continue to monitor the program and its impact, with the potential to extend it further if businesses continue to find value in receiving the updates.
